We had a wonderful time celebrating Valentine's Day at our class party. Thank you to our parent volunteers for making it so special. The students were awarded the Eagle Award for displaying expected behaviors both in and out of the classroom. Way to go!
It was wonderful to meet our Second Grade Reading Buddies. The students paired (or tripled) up and completed a get-to-know-you survey and read books. Each month we will have an opportunity to read with our buddy and complete fun activities. Ask your child who their reading buddy is? During Free Prevention Week, Fireman Tony came to our room to teach us about fire safety. we learned about things that are hot or not, toys and tools and that we should go outside, not hide! Each morning the students are paired up for guided play, working on fine motor and literacy skills. This is also true for our end of the day Math bins. Students work together with a different pair to master math skills learned in the classroom, while working on social skills such as problem solving, communications, etc. Students found their Partner by connecting a Paper Plate Puzzle (Pp day!). With their partner they talked and colored together. The students enjoyed getting to know a new friend. The students have been enjoying getting to know each other while learning through play. Below are a few pictures of the play items we have in the room that help build community, fine motor strength, academic language and friendships! Although we will continue morning and afternoon play, we will begin buddy bins next week where students have a partners and are set with a specific play task. During our first 5 days of school we enjoyed some 'colorful' learning. The students buddied up, learning new names during our blue balloon buddies, mixed yellow and blue in a simple experiment to make green, and practiced scissor skills to make an orange lion. We also danced and sang to many color songs. We will continue our color learning next week.
